Sally's Ride is done in honor of Sally Paajanen, a corrections officer at Alger Maximum Correctional Facility who lost her life on February 15, 2003 in a tragic event. Friends and family initiated Sally's Fund in Paajanen's memory to foster equine protection and offer educational opportunities aimed at preventing equine neglect.
Paajanen was an avid horsewoman dedicated to her own horses as well as to the care and living conditions of other horses. Proceeds from the ride go to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) to promote protection and education solely for horses. Donations can be sent anytime to the UPAWS, C/O Sally’s Fund, PO Box 968, Marquette MI 49855. |
